Archive of 44 letters dating between 1862-1864 (one undated letter) signed by Albert J. Whitley of the 141st New York Volunteers. Five letters signed by Albert J. Whitley and dated between June and August 1864 describe his experiences during the Atlanta campaign. Private Whitley writes of his admiration for Generals Sherman, Hooker and Thomas, the many casualties and deaths suffered, including that of one of his tent mates from friendly fire. Albert tells of his aversion to the draft, and his impatience while awaiting his pay. |
