n April 16, 1865, W. A. Hamblin wrote about the assassination of Lincoln. Hamblin was a Union soldier serving at Fort Barnard in Virginia. In this letter he echoed sentiments frequently voiced by others, soldiers and civilians, that the death of Lincoln would not be a fortunate thing for the Southern states during reconstruction. |
