McAdams writes on April 26, 1864 to Harriet about John Waller, apparently a mutual acquaintance, who was taken prisoner at Chickamauga and was sent to Richmond for several months. He was then sent to Danville, VA to assist in building hospitals and from there he escaped his captors with ease and was assisted by "colored men" and "Loyal White Men" who guided them by day and hid them by night. McAdams then speculates the army will be moving soon and writes that they are opposed by Confederate General Johnson. |
