Scope & Content |
Letter dated December 19, 1862, written only six days after the Battle of Fredericksburg, by a Union soldier identified only as Willie. Although Willie was not in the battle, the letter expresses his grief on learning of the results and some guilt for having been absent. In very powerful language Willie writes of what he believes to be the futility of the charge of Union troops against Marye's Heights. |
