Buck, Giddings, J. |
Date |
April 20, 1863 |
Scope & Content |
Diary fragment covering only the period from April 20, 1863 to April 26, 1863. Buck wrote of marching to Halletsville, then to Clinton and on to Goliad. Buck was a well educated man and wrote about being tired of life with the other soldiers, "Your conversation must be strictly confined to the most commonplace subjects, and the most practiical, every day, aspects even of those, in order to be at all understood . . ." In Clinton, Buck tried to purchase books which were not available, but the local druggist gave him one, "Life of Tecumpseh" which he read although finding it "not very interesting." |
