|Scope & Content||This letter, dated May 3, 1863 is written to General Ruben Davis (no relation) about his nephew Joseph Robert Davis and the situation in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Davis wrote, "Genl. J.R. Davis Brigade is now in the face of the Enemy and you will perceive by intelligence now going over the wire what our condition is. Genl. Pemberton is engaged with the enemy south of Vicksburg and you know his necessities."|
